Mona Ponthieu Brunson

MONA RAY PONTHIEU BRUNSON, Age 81, of Bridge City, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 2nd, 2020 in Orange, Texas.
Born in Groves, Texas, on November 23, 1938, she was the daughter of Clinton Ponthieu and Angel Thibodeaux Ponthieu.
Mona graduated from Bishop Byrne High School, Port Arthur Business College, and worked for some time at Gulf Oil as a key punch operator.
Mona was a lifelong member of St. Henry’s Catholic Church, and a long-time member of the Ladies Auxiliary Society.
Mona’s favorite hobby was needlework and quilting, for which she made countless quilts. She donated numerous hours of her time quilting at Thrift & Gift in Orange, Texas. She was a loving, compassionate and social person who enjoyed meeting new friends and visiting. Mona treasured the friendships and ‘sisterhoods’ that she developed with a small group of friends, some she had known and cherished for 60 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harold A. Brunson; her parents; sister, Shirley Ponthieu Goebel; infant son, Christopher Joseph Brunson; and grandson, Patrick Kyle Godwin, Jr.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Emeric and Marilyn Ponthieu; daughter, Jennifer Brunson of Katy, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Tracey and Kevin Mott of Orangefield, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. C. Ray Brunson and Kimberly Cargo Brunson of Pert, Texas; grandchildren: Meagan Godwin, Christopher Brunson and fiancé Anne Allare, Nick Brunson, Ellen Brunson and partner Davis Hamor, Matt Brunson and wife Lauren, Alexandra Sarria, Katelyn Mott, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mona was a very compassionate caregiver and a beautiful soul. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren, which whom she loved fiercely. To know Mona was to love her and to be loved by her.
In alignment with her generous and giving personality, Mona decided long ago to donate her body to be studied at the University of Texas Medical Branch - Galveston.
The family will schedule a memorial service in Mona Brunson’s honor at a later date.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Pearl Helm and Mrs. Kay Bray of Family Care Assisted Living in Orange, Texas. They provided special care for Mona. They are truly angels here on Earth for the love and compassion that they show their residents.
