Mertie Fay Singleton

November 15, 1942 — April 7, 2021

Mertie Fay Singleton, loving mother, sister and grandmother made her journey into Heaven April 7, 2021.

Funeral services will be 6:00 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2021, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Stephen Hudnall of Oak Grove Tabernacle. Cremation will follow funeral services.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Monday, April 12, 2021, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born November 15, 1942 to John Wesley Singleton and Ethel (Killian) Cox. She was a lifelong resident of Hartburg, and a member of Oak Grove Tabernacle. Mertie was a hairdresser in Orange for many years and a founding member of The Honey Do’s, known for its many fundraisers to help those in need. She enjoyed listening to praise and worship music on tv with her daughter and served her Lord faithfully. Mertie will be deeply missed by all those who came to know and love her.

Mertie is preceded in death by her parents; son, Ricky McKinney; siblings, Thelma L. Plant and John L. Singleton; and niece, Helen Plunkett Bernard.

Those who will most cherish her memory are her daughter, Sandra Dial of Crystal Beach; sister, Bernice Plunkett and husband Smokey of Hartburg; granddaughter, Rikki Prejean and husband Shane; great grandson, Chase Prejean of Orangefield; nieces and nephews, Judy Storms, Frank Basar, Sherlon Jones, Melvin Plunkett, Lee Plunkett, Johnnie Singleton, and Terry Bussel; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Elaine Stephens for her many hours of love and care and the entire staff of Compassion Hospice along with the staff of Oak Grove Nursing Home.
