A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 4, 2019, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange. Officiating will be Father Joseph Daleo. Entombment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be held prior to the Mass, beginning at 9:00 a.m., at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Port Arthur, Texas on January 31, 1923, she was the daughter of Sidney Sonnier and Rose (Grossie) Sonnier.

Mae passed away at 96 years young, three months shy of her 97th birthday, a life well lived. Mae was a world traveler, queen of it all. She always loved the mountains, never one for the extreme sports, but “the mountains were so pretty,” as she would say. From the mountains to the sea and everything on land, she knew how to travel.

She kept magnets from all over the world on her refrigerator and all of her grandkids would try to figure out which one was missing. They never could figure that out, because she’s been everywhere and experienced just about everything life could offer. She was clever to make that a game, as she knew it would keep them entertained. She loved having a house full of kids.

Every root of our family began with her, our matriarch. She started a legacy that we believe will stand true to her beliefs and never let pettiness get in the way. So today, and forever... we promise that we will stand by her true beliefs which were family, love and traveling beyond your wildest dreams.

She is survived by her seven children, Pamela Sledge and husband Donnie of Bridge City, Sharon Skamenca and husband David of Bridgewater, New Jersey, Debra Crew and husband Gary of Orange, Terry Stelly of Kirbyville, Merry Knab and husband Joseph of Westlake, Ohio, Chris Stelly and wife Marilyn of Greenville, South Carolina, and Michael Stelly and wife Wendy of Orange; 14 grandchildren, Angela, Jennifer, Joshua, Shelley, Ashley, Julia, Anthony, Joseph, Cameron, Preston, Logan, Brooke, Kelsey, and Conner; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cameron Stelly, Preston Stelly, Logan Stelly, Anthony Quebodeaux, Joseph Quebodeaux, Joshua Skamenca, and Caden Shaw.
