Lynda Gayle Wainwright Follmer

Lynda Gayle Wainwright Follmer was born January 17, 1938 and passed away peacefully in the early morning on January 1, 2022 at her home in Beaumont, Texas. To honor her memory, visitation will be held Wednesday January, 5th 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont. A celebration of her life will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church Thursday January 6th at 11:00am with Reverend Rick Ivey officiating.

Lynda married the love of her life Roy Follmer on July 4, 1963, in Beaumont, TX and they were about to embark on their 59th wedding anniversary.
In her early years, she graduated from French High School in 1956 with honors and proceeded to attend Lamar University where she graduated in 1960 with a degree in Elementary Education. She furthered her educational accomplishments with a master’s degree in history from Lamar University in 1966. She also participated as a contestant in the 1958 Miss Beaumont Beauty Contest.
She touched the lives of many during her 33 years of teaching 3rd grade elementary students. During her teaching years, she was recognized as “Teacher of the Year” by the local Texas A&M Club and by the Metropolitan PTA of Beaumont. Lynda was also a devoted member of Wesley United Methodist Church (formerly North End) for 83 years where she served the church in various capacities. Her years at the church included starting the first children’s choir and becoming one of the founders of both the Society of St. Stephens and the annual church garage sale. One of her greatest accomplishments with the church was serving as a Lay Delegate to the Texas Annual Conference for over 20 years. She was very active in the United Methodist Women and was Chairman of the annual church bazaar.

Mrs. Follmer was preceded in death by her sister Sandra Dutton, daughter Samantha Lynn Follmer, and parents Icylene and S.D. Wainwright.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Follmer of Beaumont, TX, daughter, Stacy Ribbik and son-in law Spencer Ribbik, grandsons Drake and Deklin Ribbik of Frisco, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of St. Stephen at Wesley United Methodist Church, 3810 N. Major Dr., Beaumont, TX 77713 or to the Southeast Texas Humane Society, 2050 Spindletop Rd. Beaumont, TX 77705.
