Loyd "Hoppy" Hopkins

January 1, 1930 - December 14, 2021

Loyd “Hoppy” Hopkins, 91, of Orange, passed away on December 14, 2021 at his home. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Mauriceville, followed by funeral services starting at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Pastor Kevin Brown. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Orange. Born in Corsicana, Texas, on January 1, 1930, he was the son of Samuel E. Hopkins and Alice Ragsdale Hopkins. He graduated from Stark High School in 1947 before serving in the Air Force. He married Sue Jo Cannon 66 years ago and was a dedicated member at the First Baptist Church in Mauriceville. He was a longtime employee of DuPont Sabine Riverworks. Along with his family he owned and operated Hop’s Washeterias in Orange, Texas and Vinton, Louisiana. Loyd owned and operated Vari Weld, a fabricating shop which provided services to local industries as well as the design and construction of aluminum boats. After retirement, he loved to spend time on his farm, his talent for design and construction resulted in a beautiful home for his wife and family. He loved his animals which included cattle, goats and dogs. He is survived by his wife, Sue Hopkins; his daughters, Alice Adams and husband Kevin, Pam Lemire and husband Jean; his son, Greg Hopkins and his grandchildren, Blake Adams and wife Stephanie, Ryan Adams, Philippe Lemire and Stefan Lemire, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Joyce Miller and Jennifer Cannon, whose cakes and pies were his favorite. Serving as pallbearers will be Blake Adams, Ryan Adams, Stefan Lemire, Philippe Lemire, and Kevin Oakley.
