Linda Jo Hitchings was born on September 25, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas to Everett Loring Hitchings and Irma Beaty Hitchings. On June 14, 2021, Linda gained her wings and is an Angel looking over us all.
As a young child Linda wanted to run away to join the circus. She came very close to her first career choice; she became an elementary school teacher. Linda's formal education began in Rhein Main Germany, where her father was stationed in the Air Force. She traveled with her family to Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Austria and throughout Germany. On these journeys, Linda learned to have a gentle acceptance of different cultures. Naturally, this greatly influenced her thinking and teaching.
Linda graduated from Highlands High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1972. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1976 and a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Houston in 1982. Linda taught at Burleson Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas from 1977-1978. Linda then taught at Timbers Elementary School in the Humble Independent School District. She was honored by being selected Teacher of the year (1993-1994) at Timbers Elementary School. She was also one of the five finalists for Teacher of the year (1993-1994) for the Humble Independent School District. She continued teaching at Timbers Elementary School until her retirement in 2009 after which she continued to teach as a substitute teacher for eleven more years. She made many lifelong friends during her career.
Linda was a member of A Course in Miracle (ACIM) and made many lasting friendships.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Irma Hitchings; and her grandparents, Ellis Ray Hitchings and Inez Young Hitchings, Ernest Beaty and Lydia Alston Beaty.
She is survived by her siblings, Barry Hitchings, Betty Hitchings Jacobs, Buster Hitchings; Cousin Joan Ermis, Nieces: Jo Ann Jacobs and partner Maggie Bryant, Jeannie Wyatt and husband Pat, Lacey Fitzer and husband Andrew; Great-nieces, Danyel Dobson and husband Judd, Dani Wyatt, Allie Fitzer, Lily Fitzer; Great-nephew Daniel Wyatt and partner Ally Cimo; Cousin Cliff and wife Val children Hudson and Addison; Great-great-nephew Riley Dobson, and many devoted friends.
