Linda Celeste Hanks

August 31, 1951 — October 8, 2017

Linda Celeste Hanks, born on August 31st 1951, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, October 8th.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rodger Dale Hanks; her parents, Walter and Gladys Nell Hankins, and her beloved, dog Hollie.

She is survived by her three daughters, Erin Smith of Beaumont, Texas, Molly Prevost and her husband Branndon of Oakdale, California, and Sarah Hanks- Denmon and her husband, Jason of Vidor, Texas; as well as her three grandchildren, Alyse Hanks, Gavin Smith, and Lucas Prevost. Linda is also survived by her two sisters, Wanda Sanchez and her husband, Charles of Beaumont, Texas, Vickie Whitehead of Buna, Texas; half-siblings, Bruce Whitehead and Becky Gray, both of Buna, Texas; along with step-siblings, Dennis, Debbie and David Marks, all of Evadale, Texas.

She leaves behind one niece, many nephews, aunts, uncles, friends and cousins, including Rhonda Rasa of Browndell, Texas and Charlotte White of Little Cypress Texas.

Linda also leaves behind her two beloved fur babies, Bailey and Gigi, as well as her cherished grand pups, BeeBee, Marshall, Maggie, Lucy, Saydee, Ralph and Daisy Mae.

Linda attended Forest Park High School, graduating in 1970 with track and field, and home economics being her favorite electives. Her favorite hobby was gardening, and she was very knowledgeable about most any type of plants, especially flowers. Linda was an outgoing, gregarious soul who loved babies, animals and life. She never met a stranger, and could befriend just about anyone, often making friends wherever she went.

She absolutely loved to laugh joke and had a hearty, unique sense of humor. She could always find a way to ease any tense situation by randomly bursting into song or telling a quick joke in order to get everyone to laugh. Being able to find humor in the midst of seriousness or sadness was our trademark characteristic, which will be heavily missed.

An avid fan of country music, she left this world while listening to Johnny Cash, giving her the good fortune to ascend into heaven doing exactly what she enjoyed.

Whoever said to never trust a skinny cook was completely incorrect, because that little petite woman cooked the best home-style southern food whenever the opportunity arose.

Funeral services will be held at First Christian Church, 915 Tannahill Street, Vidor, Texas, 77662, at 11 a.m. Monday, October 16th, 2017. Those in attendance at services are asked to bring a food and/ or drink item as there will be a potluck style lunch served as a way to honor both, Linda and her husband.

In lieu of flowers, attendees are asked to instead bring toiletries ,bottled water, canned goods, towels, blankets, cleaning supplies, baby food and formula, as well as baby supplies, because the church providing the service is running a hurricane Harvey Disaster Relief Center. Also as an alternative to flowers, there will be two containers set up at the service for monetary donations to Houston ASPCA and the Butterfly House at the Houston Zoo. Guests are also asked to please bring gardening, automotive or a children's genre book to be donated in honor of Rodger and Linda Hanks to the Beaumont Public Library.

Having Survived Hurricane Rita Ike and Harvey Linda would have wanted those in hard times because of a storm to receive aid on her behalf. One of her favorite television shows was Animal Cops Houston and she would have loved the idea of the animals in need getting assistance.

Linda proudly said every time she saw a butterfly after her husband passed away she often believed that her spouse was sending the butterfly her way to tell her that he loved her.

When Roger and Linda were in their early twenties they lived in Houston, and often had lunch at the zoo or the museum, always finishing their meal with the visit to the Butterfly House. Linda would be very thankful that the proceeds would all be going to such beautiful creatures.

For the book donation, Linda was usually nose deep in a plant catalog or plant book and Roger was just as equally buried in an automotive book for some sort. Their children also have very fond memories of their parents reading to them as well.

Your family all loves you Nan. Fly high with your angel wings alongside dad grandmother and the rest of our family who has gone on to Heaven before us. Until we meet again we love you with all our hearts and may you always watch over us.
