Laura "Nana" Lee Denham Mooney

Laura “Nana” Lee Denham Mooney passed away at the age of 91 at Oakwood Manor nursing home in Vidor, Texas.

Cremation will be under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home, with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Laura was born in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana on May 12, 1931 to Laura Blocker Denham and Billy Thaxton Denham. She grew up in El Dorado, Arkansas and moved to Orange in 1974, where she resided until her passing. Laura was an employee of Kroger in Orange for over 30 years. Upon her retirement from Kroger, she worked for Basic Phone, White’s Gas Station, and Delta Fuel in Vinton, Louisiana. Laura was well loved by her colleagues and customers. Laura loved sports and one of her greatest joys was watching her grandchildren play football, basketball, baseball, and softball. She loved babies and welcomed each new blessing with a hand sewn baby blanket.

Laura is preceded in death by her mother and father, son David Lee Mooney Jr., daughter Laura Diane Mooney Gonzalez, and son Michael Bruce Mooney. Brothers, Billy G. Denham, Gwayne Denham, Bob Denham, and sister-in-law Alberta Denham.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law Bill and Joyce Mooney, daughter and son-in-law Mary and Troy Landry, son-in-law and daughter-in-law Herman and Sherrie Gonzalez, daughter-in-law Lynette Mooney, and sisters-in-law Mary Dee Denham and Evelyn Denham. Her grandchildren are: Trini and Ellen Gonzalez, Laura Wilson, Amanda and Todd Moss, Jeremy and Heather Gonzalez, Matthew and Jennifer Mooney, Meagan and Jordan Thurman, Taylor and Victoria Landry, Emily Landry and fiance Dylan Dixson, and Evan Landry. Her great grandchildren are: Elizabeth, Isabella, and Oscar Gonzalez, Laura Grace and Amelia Wilson, Brady and Colt Moss, Bailey and Major Gonzalez, Hunter and Ainsley Mooney, Tucker Thurman, and soon to be born Beckett James Landry. Laura also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Laura’s special family members included Bubba and Sonda Landry and their children Whitney Yamada and Trey Landry and their families, and a host of other friends that she considered family and loved dearly. Nana’s greatest blessings were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Laura’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the nurses and aides from Compassion Hospice and Southwest Texas Home Health, they were truly a Godsend, along with Oakwood Manor Nursing Home.
