Larry Wayne Hughes, 70, of Beaumont, passed away on October 28, 2021, in Port Arthur.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 13, at Claybar Kelley Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont.

Born in Beaumont, Texas, on January 20, 1951, he was the son of the late George Hughes and Twyla Mae (Eberhard) Hughes. He was also the husband to the late Brenda S. (Eaves) Hughes. Larry is survived by his late wife’s daughter, Shelley, and her extended family and his sisters Georgia (Hughes) Bond-Smith of Arlington, Texas, Twyla (Hughes) Nicholson of Jacksonville, N. Carolina, and a brother Don Bradley Hughes of Diboll, Tx. He is also survived by his significant other, Sue Bodden, and her extended family.

After graduating from South Park High School in 1969, Larry proudly and honorably served in the United States Marines. He worked for a short time with his Father, George (Ole Nine) Hughes, and his Grandfather, O. F. (Sam) Eberhard, Sr., at Mobil Oil Refinery, before going to work at Tri Supply. At Tri Supply he worked for about 40 years as a carpenter and Warehouse Manager before retiring. Larry was known by those close to him as a hunter and a poet. He loved the outdoors and yet, he could tell a story with the words in his heart. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
