John Robert Everett, 89, of Orange, Texas, passed away on June 23, 2019, in Houston, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2019, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Mark Bunch. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2019, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City, Texas.

Born in Mississippi, on August 17, 1929, he was the son of Howard Webster Everett and Jon Estelle (Venters) Everett. John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and the United States Army. He later went on to work as a lab technician for DuPont and retired after over 30 years of service. John was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was an avid reader and he immersed himself in the study of God’s word and teachings, and he strived to be a disciple of Christ. He participated in the Methodist Men at the church. He volunteered at Orange Christian Services, with the regional church teams for hurricane preparation and relief, coordinated blood drives with LifeShare, and participated in Yellowstone National Parks Senior Volunteer Program with his late wife, Mary. John loved to help others whenever he could. John was also an excellent cook. His family loved his spaghetti, gumbo, meatloaf, and turkey and dressing. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and fixing things around the house. He was proud of his family and actively participated in their lives. John will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary (Fuller) Everett; his parents, Howard and Jon Estelle Everett; and his 7 siblings.

He is survived by his children, Owen Everett and wife Joy of Newton, North Carolina, Terri Barclay and husband Carey of Beaumont, Texas, Cindy Clay and husband Russell of Lewisville, Texas, and Stephen Everett and wife Leslie of El Sobrante, California; his grandchildren, Lindsay Robins and husband David, Krista Goetz and husband Austin, Ashley Woodson and husband Bryan, Scott Everett, Derrick Miller and wife Ryan, Chance Everett, Hunter Clay and wife Danielle, Tracy Garlinghouse and husband John, and Kelly Gilbert and husband Terry; and his great-grandchildren, Addyson Bolton, Cael Everett, Carter Woodson, Emerson Robins, Anabelle Miller, Kolton Goetz, Finnley Woodson, Robert “Bobby” Miller, Jake Ervin, Liam Garlinghouse, Ethan Garlinghouse, and Abigail Garlinghouse.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Robins, Austin Goetz, Bryan Woodson, Scott Everett, Derrick Miller, Chance Everett, and Hunter Clay.
