Joey Mark Walker

May 20, 1961 — March 4, 2020

Joey Mark Walker, 58, of Orange, Texas, passed away on March 4, 2020, at home surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Jeff Anderson. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Born in Monroe, Louisiana, on May 20, 1961, he was the son of James “J.B.” Walker, Sr. and Joan Walker.

Joey moved to Bridge City, Texas when he was in grade school. He met the love of his life, Shirley, as kids when they were only 9 years old. They did all of their growing up together, fell madly in love, and married shortly after graduating from Bridge City High School in 1979. Joey and Shirley had a real-life love story that many only read about in fairy tales. A love like theirs will live on forever.

Joey and his Dad owned Walker’s Countertops and worked as a dynamic duo for many years. After his Dad retired, Joey and his son then took over and continued the family business. He was a perfectionist and a master at his craft. Joey always took great pride in his work and enjoyed seeing his customers satisfied. He made many long-lasting friendships with all of the contractors he worked with over the years.

Joey enjoyed all LSU sports, working out, hunting, fishing, traveling, and was an avid music lover. He was quick to tell you he was from North Louisiana, not the South. His family and friends were everything to him. Everyone loved to gather at his home and listen to his great stories and antics. He always kept everyone laughing. Joey adored his grandchildren and spent many days babysitting them.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley Walker; daughter, Keely Walker; son, Jess Walker and wife Ramona; grandchildren, Sidney Holderman, Ava and Jax Walker, and Daisy Vines; mother, Joan Walker; siblings, James B. Walker, Jr. and wife Sherry, Janie Hutto, Jennifer Chauvin and husband Tim; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jess Walker, Sidney Holderman, Justin Mullhollan, Logan Walker, Brian Murphy, and Scott Passmore.

Honorary pallbearers are Jax Walker, Johnny Welch, Ricky Simon, Ryan Taylor, Ben Justice, and all of his uncles.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Southeast Texas Hospice for the wonderful love and kindness they shared with Joey and his family.
