Jerry Wayne Romero

Jerry Wayne Romero, 69, of Brookeland, Texas, passed away on May 4, 2020, at his home in Brookeland.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas. Officiating will be Murry Dean Ray of Bridge City United Pentecostal Church. Final resting place will be at Head of Hollow Cemetery in Johnson Bayou, Louisiana.

Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Claybar Funeral Home.

Born in Orange, Texas, on September 10, 1950, he was the son of Murphy Romero and Ruby (Menard) Romero. Jerry was raised in Johnson Bayou, Louisiana. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. Jerry worked as a pipefitter for Texaco in Port Arthur, Texas before later moving to Onalaska, Texas, where he owned a tire shop. Upon returning to Southeast Texas, he worked as a plant manager for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for many years before retiring. Jerry was strong-willed and a jack of all trades. He was a great provider for Teri and his family, and always made sure they were taken care of. Family was very important to Jerry and he adored his granddaughter, Madilyn. He was a good Christian man who would always lend a helping hand and was proud of his Louisiana roots. Jerry always tried to lead by example. Many would describe him as being a “good ole boy.” He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors at Lake Sam Rayburn. Jerry will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Murphy and Ruby Romero; and his sister, Louanna McNeil.

He is survived by loving wife of 36 years, Teri (Britt) Romero; his daughter, Michele Mattatall and husband Christopher of Humble; his granddaughter, Madilyn Mattatall; his twin sister, Judy Harrington and husband Jimmie of Johnson Bayou; his brother, Ronnie Romero of Hackberry; his sister, Diane Price of Johnson Bayou; his nephew and fishing partner, Rowdy Slaughter of Bridge City, who Jerry loved as a son; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rowdy Slaughter, Rory Slaughter, Ronnie Slaughter, Roger McElvey, Harry Joe Wolf, and Harold Romero.
