Jerry Wayne Belcher

December 23, 1945 — December 18, 2020

Jerry Wayne Belcher, 74, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2020, at his daughter’s home in Orange.

Born in Orange, Texas on December 23, 1945, he was the son of Boyd and Edith (Harrison) Belcher.

For the majority of his life, Jerry was a bricklayer, alongside his brothers and father. Some of his passions outside of work were fishing, singing karaoke with his niece Rhonda, throwing his voice, and talking about winning the lottery. If you or others have heard a faint “hey lady,” know that Jerry was laughing with his ventriloquist skills as you looked around the room. Something avidly enjoyed by Jerry was the film series ‘Rocky,’ known to family and friends as being something he watched hundreds of times throughout his life.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Kay Belcher; daughter, Terri Lynn Newton; and brother, JT Belcher.

He is survived by his son, Donnie Steffens and wife Maura; daughters, Dana Hamilton and Melissa Peveto and husband Casey; siblings, Robert Belcher, Dorothy Reeves, Margaret Wise, and Boyd Belcher; sisters-in-law, Glenda Belcher, Sharon Belcher, and Linda Stone; grandchildren, Blake Hamilton, Jr., Kristen Steffens, Derek Hamilton, Krystal Peveto, Cody Newton, Chandler Peveto, Megan Peveto, and Gabby Hamilton; as well as his five great-grandchildren. Special life-long friends to Jerry are Jim Fusaro, Johnny King, Larry Ferree, and Billy Leger. Jerry had his “favorites” including Bonnie Smith, along with Jennifer, Heather, and Jessica Hickman.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his hospice nurse, “Lil Betty” and niece, Tonya Melancon for their loving care and dedication to Jerry in his final days.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Claybar Funeral Home in Orange and a private service will take place at a later date.
