Houston Raymond Dickerson

August 1, 1920 — October 17, 2018

Houston Raymond Dickerson, 98 of Beaumont passed away on October 17, 2018. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on August 1, 1920 to William and Mary Dickerson.

Houston attended South Park High School and went to Lamar University. As a young man of 21 he joined the Air Force shortly before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Stationed in England, he and his squad went through some horrific times and loss of good friends with all the bombing runs across the channel. Houston always tried to lift the spirits of his fellow soldiers with his jokes and funny stories. One of his favorite times was when the guys made an ice cream mix and the pilots flew it up in a bomber plane for a few hours at high altitude to freeze it. He returned to Beaumont to go into the restaurant business with his father, later running his own restaurant Dickerson’s Drive-In and becoming president of the Sabine Area Restaurant Association. He used his knowledge learned in the service to fix any instrument on a military aircraft to move to a profession in instrumentation. His favorite pastimes were spending time on his houseboat on the Neches River, going to any garage sale in town and having breakfast most mornings with his buddies. He attended Calvary Baptist Church where he made wonderful friends of all ages.

The family is very grateful to the Clarks for inviting him for holiday dinners and the birthday party his friends organized for him when he moved to Calder Woods. They also want to thank Latoya Thompson and all his caregivers at Calder Woods, Delores Moses who cared for him, Mike Hart and all his many friends who embraced him. You all held a special place in his heart.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Frank.

Houston is survived by two sons, Ronny and wife Daphne, Randy and wife Debra and grandchildren Lindsay and Cooper Dickerson, step grandchildren William and Holly Gilchriest, Cody and Venus Gilchriest, step great grandchildren Cash and Lane and great-niece Shilo Carr Taylor.
