Holly Gunstream Brown

December 16, 1961 — February 24, 2019

Holly Gunstream Brown, 57, of Magnolia, Texas, passed away on February 24, 2019, after a long and courageous battle of breast cancer. For 4 ½ years, she daily worked on her body to defeat the Stage 4 cancer. She was constantly eating organic foods, consuming countless naturopathic supplements, lathering up on essential oils and various concoctions, and so much more. She survived 4 plus rounds of chemo therapy, a month of radiation she took twice a day, and overcame constant discouragement and became an encouragement to all who met her.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019, at Magnolia Bible Church in Magnolia, Texas with Dr. Stephen Burrell officiating. The family welcomes friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Additional funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2019, at First Baptist Church in Orange with Reverend Barry Bradley officiating. The family welcomes friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange, Texas.

Born in Orange, Texas, on December 16, 1961, she was the daughter of Lewis Gunstream and Nancy Matsko Gunstream. She was a devoted member of Magnolia Bible Church, Bookcliff Baptist Church, Cleburne Bible Church, and Believers Fellowship. Teaching her five children and others about Jesus Christ was a driving love of her life. Daily, she sacrificed herself for the benefit of her family and others. Holly graduated from Orangefield High School in 1980 and went on to get her Bachelor’s Degree from Hardin-Simmons University and her Master’s Degree from Texas Women’s University in Denton.

She was an avid athlete in High School and College. Holly spent countless hours shooting basketball free throws at home in the driveway, running bleachers, and honing her skills on the track. Full throttle was how she lived – she enjoyed being outdoors hiking, camping, and archery elk hunting. She was a very spirited and tenacious person who could put a smile on anyone’s face. She loved spending time with her family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Holly had a heart as big as Texas for those who needed someone to speak on their behalf. Holly enjoyed working as a public educator for many years. Her heart and education focused on special needs children in helping them have a better life. Holly was their job coach, mentor, advocate, cheerleader, friend, and biggest fan – she affectionately spoke of these precious people as “her people”. She had a special, one-of-a-kind love for the most needy of society – a blessing sent by God. Holly completed the race God had for her, with excellence.

We love you elephants, blue whales, universes and black holes Mom. The most incredible and sacrificial woman on the planet! Know that you are deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Gunstream.

Holly is survived by her mother, Nancy Gunstream; her loving husband of 26 years, David Brown; children, Cynthia Brown, of Magnolia, Justin Brown, of Keystone, SD, Caleb Brown, of Grand Junction, CO, Matthew Brown, of Magnolia, Michelle Brown, of Magnolia, and Katelyn Watson and husband Jordan, of Crowley, TX; and her siblings, Terry Ferguson and husband Tracy, Lynda Gunstream and husband John Heard, and Mark Gunstream and wife Susan.
