Henry Paul "Skip" Vercher, Jr.

Henry Paul “Skip” Vercher, Jr., 74, of Orange, passed away on July 15, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 23, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Officiating will be Reverend Antony Paulose. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 22, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. A recitation of the rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, led by Deacon Melvin Payne.

Paul was born in Beaumont, Texas, on April 17, 1948. He was the son of Dorothy Mae and Henry Paul Vercher, Sr. He was a science teacher at West Orange Stark Middle School for 36 years. Paul was admired and respected by many of his students and loved learning and sharing his knowledge, especially his interest in rocketry. He was also the videographer for West Orange Stark High School football games for over 40 years. Paul enjoyed boating and the excellent fishing that came with it. He also took great pleasure in maintaining his lawn and pool, as well as driving around in his red truck. Paul would frequently travel and took delight in the many adventures he experienced, making wonderful memories with his immediate and extended family. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling his “dad” jokes. Paul was also an avid sports fan, and enjoyed several genres of music and dancing along with it. He attended and enjoyed many concerts, live theatre, and sporting events with his family. You could always find him cheering on his sons’ and grandsons’ soccer games and dance, band, and choir performances. Paul was a faith-filled, devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Orange. More than anything, he loved his wife of 50 years, his sons, daughter-in-law, grandsons and the newest member of the family, his granddaughter-in-law.

He is preceded in death by his father, Henry Paul Vercher, Sr; mother, Dorothy Mae Broussard Vercher; father-in-law, Earl J. Verrett; mother-in-law, M. June Sandquist Verrett; his sister-in-law, Annette Thibodeaux Verrett; brother-in-law, Tom Verrett; and brother-in-law, Walter Potter.

Those left to cherish Skip’s memory are his loving wife, Linda Anne Verrett Vercher; sons, Jason Paul Vercher and wife, Robin of Orange, Robert Michael Vercher of Houston; grandchildren, Cullen Maglothin of Webster, Tx, Connor Vercher and wife, Victoria, Camden Vercher, Calder Vercher all of Orange. Skip grew up as an only child, but he gained many loving brothers and sisters through his marriage to Linda. They are Jimmy Verrett and late wife, Annette, and wife Daina, Tom Verrett and wife, Judy, Mary Potter and husband, Walter, Leo Verrett and wife, Sharon, and Carol Cunningham and husband, Sam. Uncle Skip will be deeply missed by his many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. Skip also leaves behind loving cousins from the U.S. and Canada.

Serving as pallbearers will be Connor Vercher, Camden Vercher, Jimmy Verrett, Leo Verrett, Sam Cunningham, and Brian McCorvy. Honorary pallbearers are Jason Vercher, Robert Vercher, Cullen Maglothin, Calder Vercher, Sammy Wilson, and David Shoemaker.
