Delores “MawMaw” Bird
Delores “MawMaw” Bird, 86, of Orange, passed away on August 20, 2017.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 22, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Bridge City. Officiating will be Father Steve Leger. Cremation is under the direction of Claybar Haven of Rest.

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on May 27, 1931, she was the daughter of John Kennedy and Goldie Florence. “MawMaw” Bird took care of children in her home in Bridge City for over 30 years. She loved all the children she took care of. When she was not taking care of her kids “MawMaw” Bird’s favorite pass time was playing the slot machines. She was a wonderful mother, sister, wife, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church and a very devoted catholic.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Red Bird; her brothers, Jimmy Kennedy and Bill Kennedy; and her sisters, Patricia Hatcher and Jackie Ramsey.

She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Gerald Lee Bird; her children, Charlotte A. Thompson and her husband, Denzil of Port Neches, Pamela J. Vaught and her husband, Ronnie of Orange, and Rodney Bird of Orange; her grandchildren, Jason Staton, Jenny Staton, Monica Villarreal, Jared Bird, Jeremy Bird, Lindsey Bendy, Dustin Vaught, Matthew Vaught; her 9 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Jane Tywater and her husband, Ken, Johnny Kennedy and his wife, Wanda; her sisters-in-law, Theresa Kennedy and Bernadine Bradley; her best friend, Doris Conner; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews..

Serving as pallbearers will be Jared Bird, Jeremy Bird, Jason Staton, Dustin Vaught, Matthew Vaught, and John Cole.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kindred Hospice for their amazing service, especially Carmen White and Monique. They would also like to thank her caregivers, Ada Lacayo and Ivania Gonzales for their unending compassion and help.
