Debbie Sue Honn Welch

Debbie was born October 26, 1957, to Edward William and Edna Marguerite Reese Honn. Her parents named her after the actress Debbie Reynolds. She graduated from Danville High School in Danville, Illinois, in 1975. As a girl, Debbie dreamed of becoming a veterinarian - and although that dream was never realized, she continued to love animals all of her life, especially horses.

Debbie married her husband Chris Welch in Houston, Texas. After having their son Randy, the family moved to the Seattle, Washington area and lived near the Puget Sound for several years before moving back to Texas and settling in Nederland.

For over 20 years Debbie worked for Walgreens and became a dear friend to her co-workers and many loyal customers. She was hard-working, reliable, and was considered a straight-shooter. She never failed to do her best at her job and to help anyone in any way she could. She had a kind word for everyone, and even went as far as memorizing her regular customers’ cigarette brands and passing on her personal copies of her favorite books. When she was out on extended medical leaves, her customers would regularly ask about her and send messages of support her way.

After a valiant fight with cancer, Debbie passed away on March 2, 2021. She is survived by her husband Chris and their son Randy; her brother Billy in Champaign, Illinois and his children Christopher and Mikayla; her brother Danny in Danville, Illinois; her step-brother David Davis in Danville; her step-sister Cathy Jennings in Danville; her step-father Donnie M. Davis; and her sister-in-law Gretchen (Mike) and their children Katie and Luke in Seattle. She is proceeded by her father, mother and multiple aunts and uncles.

Debbie was well-loved and will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her name to the American Cancer Society.
