Coleman Wayne Peveto

Coleman Wayne Peveto, of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away on May 13, 2018, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Shanna and Danny Carnline, in Marquez.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Burial will follow at Bland Cemetery in Orange.
Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.
Coleman was born on July 13, 1946, to loving parents Wayne and Trudy Peveto. He and his wife, Linda, made their home in Mauriceville and raised their family there. His chosen vocation was welding as a sheet metal worker, and he retired from Sheet Metal Workers Local 196 in Orange.
On weekends he enjoyed announcing rodeos, first in Southeast Texas and then throughout Texas and Louisiana. He always said he never intended to be a rodeo announcer, but in 1971, a former employer, the late rodeo promoter Laurence Winfree, told Coleman to go watch the announcer and watch what the man did. Winfree wanted him to learn to announce for him. He later worked for many other rodeo producers. Coleman said one of the most interesting rodeo arenas he worked in was the famous Gilley’s in Pasadena — it was air-conditioned and had a great sound system. Coleman’s voice was a regular presence at the Texas Longhorn rodeos in Vinton, Louisiana.
In his career as a rodeo announcer he also did many benefit rodeos for injured cowboys or civic organizations.
Some will remember him for his business, End of the Trail Barbecue. He enjoyed cooking for many people in his retirement years and also used that skill to raise money in benefits for good causes.
Coleman was a member of Masonic Lodge 1095 in Buna and was a Past Worshipful Master.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Linda Peveto; his children, Bruce Peveto and wife, Stacie, of Mauriceville; Kevin Peveto and wife, Amy, of Deer Park; Shane Peveto of Buna; Shanna Carnline and husband, Danny, of Marquez. He is also survived by his grandchildren, who affectionately call him Papaw, Krissy Peveto and wife, Sara; Jordan Kirksey; Shelby Hand and husband, Logan; Morgan Peveto; Sydney Marroquin and wife, Shelby; Cole Carnline; Casey Peveto; Gillian Peveto; and Shaye Peveto; his great-grandchildren, Briana Brooke Hand, Joslyn Henley and Noah Kirksey. He also leaves behind his siblings, Coleen Owens and husband, Aaron, of Rosenberg; Steven Peveto and wife, Renee, of Mauriceville; Alan Peveto and wife, Marilyn, of Buna; and Melissa Mulholland and husband, Brett, of Bridge City. Coleman is also survived by a special cousin, Billy Pollard of Buna; and a special friend, Doug Bean, of Buna.
Serving as pallbearers are Danny Carnline, Ricky Garza, Bruce Peveto, Casey Peveto, Kevin Peveto and Shane Peveto.
Honorary pallbearers are Doug Bean, Cole Carnline and Billy Pollard.
