Catherine Helen Cotten also lovingly known as “Kitty” went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 after a brief battle with cancer. The funeral service and burial was held at Hollywood Cemetery in McComb, Mississippi on Friday, June 5, 2020 with Fr. Suresh Thirumalareddy of St. James Catholic Church presiding over the service. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on August 21, 1924, Catherine was the daughter of Louis A. and Lola C. Szymanski. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1942. She was a loving wife, mother and Granny. Although she was born, raised and spent near half her life in Delaware, she became a Texan as her husband had relocated here for DuPont. She was a proud resident of Texas for 48 years and was a real tough lady. She worked as a bookkeeper for 20 years for State Farm Insurance in Orange. She was very involved in the VFW Auxiliary for years, serving as President of the Delaware VFW Auxiliary 1954-1955. She loved playing golf and was proud of the Hole-In-One she made at the DuPont Sabine Country Club. One of her favorite past times was playing Bridge with many of her friends down at the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church for years. She loved listening to the classics such as Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby with one of her favorite songs being “Apple Blossom Time”. She enjoyed traveling the North American Continent from Panama to the Arctic Circle with her husband Soule in their Airstream Trailer. They belonged to an Airstream club and enjoyed travelling to new places and meeting new people together. She is preceded in death by her parents; Louis and Lola Szymanski, her siblings, Dorothy Rocheleau, Eleanor Malloy, Charles Szymanski, Leon Szymanski, and James Szymanski, and her husband, Soule Cotten. She is survived by her sons Charles Cotten and fiance Donna Ellis of Orange Tx, John Cotten of Orange Tx, Michael Cotten and wife Jean of Seaford Delaware, her 3 Grandchildren Katelynn Cotten, Jason Cotten and Samantha Cotten, her brother Eddie Szymanski of Millsboro, Delaware and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice of Beaumont for their extraordinary care of Granny.
