Betty Thayer, 90, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 14, 2020, in Vidor, Texas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Orange, Texas. Father Sinclair Oubre will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Texas.
Born in Syracuse, New York, on April 2, 1929, she was the daughter of William D. Bailey and Virginia Cox Bailey. Betty spent many years as an Administrative Assistant for St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Patrick’s Church Choir, as well as the Skaneateles Singing Seniors and the Pinegrove Women’s Golf League. Betty was a very family-oriented woman who loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family enjoyed taking camping trips together and having family reunions any chance that they got. Betty loved to travel whether it was to Ireland, Hawaii, her fall trips to the Adirondack Mountains or just casual hunting with her husband. Betty liked to spend time in the kitchen cooking, baking, and decorating cakes for her loved ones. She was also known for reciting stories and poems, reading, playing cribbage, and her wonderful artwork. Betty loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Virginia Bailey; her loving husband, Willard J. Thayer; grandparents, Grover A. Cox, Viola M. Carpenter, Theresa M. Callahan, and Henry J. Bailey; daughter, Sally A. Thayer; and her siblings, Virginia Beecher, Anne Dudley, Joan Cronin, and Lt. Col. William D. Bailey, Jr.
She is survived by her children, Mary C. Fischer and husband Robert, of Skaneateles, NY, Judy A. Brinkerhoff and husband Duane, of Orange, Mark W. Thayer and wife Amy, of Danville, VA, and Scott J. Thayer and wife Mary, of Baldwinsville, NY; grandchildren, Alice, Carrie, Hannah, Zoe, Justin, Sarah, Leila, Michael, Bailey, Reilley, Kevin, Christopher, Maureen, and Kathleen; 13 great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Susan E. Bailey, Robert M. Bailey and wife Marcy, and P. Kathleen Lovell; along with numerous other loving family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Brinkerhoff, Michael Brinkerhoff, Ryan Brown, and Zach Brown.
