Sidney W. Ross, Jr.
Sidney W. Ross, Jr, age 92, died on Monday June 5th, 2017 in Tucson Arizona. He was born on June 11, 1924 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of the late Sidney Wiley Ross, Sr. and Thelma Molpus.

Sid's education was interrupted in December 1942 when he enlisted for service in the Army during WW II. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the 311th Infantry and saw action as a squad leader in the Rhineland and Central European Campaigns where he received the Purple Heart and several other medals of honor.

Upon honorable discharge in March, 1946, Sid completed his studies at Auburn University receiving his degree in Mechanical Engineering and began a career of over 35 years with E.I. DuPont Co. as an engineer and supervisor.

On January 21st, 1952 Sid married Betty Sue Thomas in Pascagoula, Ms., making their home in Orange, Texas. until moving to Hendersonville, NC upon retirement. They enjoyed 57 years together until her death in Nov. 2009.
Sidney was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed playing golf, duck hunting, traveling, gardening, sailing, dancing and walking his dog, Star. He especially loved to laugh and socialize with friends. He was also an active member of the American Cancer Society.

Sidney is survived by his daughter, Annette Bartos and her husband Wayne Bartos of Waxahachie, Texas; his son, Wiley Ross and his wife Gayle Sumida of Tucson, Arizona; his grandchildren, Kristen Hughes and her husband Brent Hughes of Waxahachie, Texas, Kevin Bartos and his wife Krista Bartos of Waxahachie, Texas, Galyn Sumida-Ross of Tucson, Arizona; and his great-grandchildren, Reese and Westin Bartos. He was predeceased by Betty Sue Ross; his infant son, Kenneth Lee Ross; and his sister, Edith Hegman.

A graveside service will be held at 9 A.M., Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Orange Forest Lawn Cemetery, in Orange, Texas.

A visitation will be held at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, Wednesday, June 14th, 2017, at 4:30-6:30 P.M.
