Ruby Lorene Hayes

October 26, 1922 — June 30, 2017

Mrs. Ruby Lorene Hayes, 94, died peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017, at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas, in Beaumont, TX, after a short illness. Her daughters, Linda Davis, Debbie Goforth and Teresa Pierce were present along with granddaughters, Janna Wedding and Cynthia Welch; grandson, Robert Swanson; great-grandson, Stephen Drury, and wife Gina.
Lorene was born to parents, Ruben Bolen and Clara Woodie Lloyd (Dodson), on October 26, 1922 in Robinson, Oklahoma. She grew up in Oklahoma City, where she and her three sisters and brother helped operate their parent’s boarding house. Lorene loved to cook and helped with meal preparations as her contribution to the household chores.
As a long standing member of North Orange Baptist Church, she participated by singing in the church choir and the Senior Adult Choir; teaching Sunday School, and supporting the Women’s Missionary Union.
Lorene married William (Bill) M. Hayes on January 14, 1984, and she became the love of his life, as they grew older together over the next 33 years. Bill and Lorene enjoyed one another’s company and loved traveling around the country and Canada by themselves, or with church groups, and friends.
Lorene is survived by her faithful husband, Bill Hayes; her daughter, Linda Looney Davis; her son, Gary Wayne Looney; and step-daughters, Deborah (Debbie) Hayes Goforth, and Teresa Hayes Pierce. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren, plus many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Lorene is preceded in death by her parents, Bolen and Woodie Lloyd; her brother, Howard Dodson Lloyd; her sisters, Gertrude Lucille Woodill, Mary Louise Watters, and Leta Ruth Beard; and five nephews. She is also preceded by her step-son, Milton Ray Hayes.
Lorene requested cremation and that there would be no funeral service. The family is respecting and honoring her wishes. However, in recognizing Lorene’s strong and faithful support for missionaries, please consider two things: Praying for missionaries around the world (as often as God leads you to pray for them), and giving a love offering to the Mission Funds at her beloved church, North Orange Baptist Church. (This is in lieu of flowers). This will honor and celebrate her life.
We offer many thanks to the “prayer warriors” who prayed for Lorene and her family. “The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26. (A “Lorene favorite”) Love to all!
