Robert L. Walters

February 22, 1931 — September 26, 2017

Robert L. Walters (02/22/31 - 09/26/17)

Robert L. Walters was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Salem, Indiana, to Archie Ralph Walters and Gladys Cauble Walters. He passed on to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 26, 2017. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy, where he worked as a Radar Technician. He served in Korea, and in 1948 he was stationed in Orange, Texas, where he met and fell in love with his “Girl”, Vernell and her sweet family.
Robert began his career as a welder at Livingston Shipyard, and then worked at Dupont for a short while before finally retiring from Chevron Chemical in 1990. His work nickname was “Beaver” (likening him to a hard-working beaver) due to his strong work ethic which he passed down to his children. An avid sports fan, Robert never missed a Rangers game, but he sure loved his Astros.
In 2005, after the death of his beloved wife, Robert moved to Kentucky to live with his daughter Beverly and her husband Don. He moved back to Texas and Cowboy Country in 2009.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Vernell Cady Walters, son-in-law Don Daily, and his brother and sister, Wyatt and Bonnie Walters. He is survived by 3 children, Linda and Jerry Bell of Gordon, TX., Beverly Daily of Colleyville, TX, and Ken and Julie Walters of Flower Mound, TX; 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Robert will be missed by many; however, we find peace in knowing he is with his “Girl,” lifting his voice to his Savior as he had loved to do in Sunday morning choir. In between the quiet reflectiveness he is well known for, he will, no doubt, entertain the angels with that dry wit of his which will be so missed.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
