Robert "Davy" Dearing

December 7, 1970 — June 6, 2017

Davy Dearing, born December 7, 1970, in Houston, Texas, entered into eternity on June 6, 2017 at his home in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania, in the loving arms of his wife, Shannon. Davy is survived by two sons, Phineas, 11, and Brock, 9. He is the beloved son of his mother and step-father, Linda and Curtis Koonce of Frisco, Texas; and brother to his sister Amanda and her husband Chris Farrar and uncle to their children, Hannah, Abby and his namesake, William Robert, also of Frisco; also surviving Davy are the grandmother he loved dearly, Lois Parker, his uncle and aunt, Robert and Peggy Parker, and cousins Rodney Parker and his son Trenton, and Robyn Parker Kordish and her husband Joey and their daughters Karissa and Kyler, all of Bridge City, Texas. He is further survived by an aunt and uncle, Curtis and Donna Dearing of Winnie, Texas, and cousins Carl Dearing and Angie Dearing Steelman. Also surviving are his father C. D. Dearing, Jr. and grandparents Zelma and C. D. Dearing, Sr. all of Center, Texas; his mother in law Cherie Möoy of Lackawaxen and Fresno, California, and his sister in law Janna Möoy of Fresno; and a large extended family. Davy was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wayne G. Parker of Bridge City, who was a loving and integral part of Davy’s life, and his father in law, Steve Möoy, of Fresno.

Beyond his precious family, the great love of Davy’s life was The Theater. That love began in junior high school when he took his first theater arts class and continued throughout his life. He studied in summer theater workshops at Texas State University in San Marcos during high school and he appeared in and crewed a number of productions at Orange Community Players in Orange, Texas, as a teen under the direction of Jeanne Wood Kern, Jeff Hattman and other esteemed directors. He also appeared with a touring production of the Washington National Theater at Orange’s Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts while still in high school. Davy was a member of the Class of 1989 at Bridge City High School where he was twice named to the first team All-District football team.

Davy was a Technical Theater major at Lon Morris College, where he was voted Class Favorite and Co-President of the Theater Fraternity. During his college summers he worked at Galveston Island Outdoor Musicals where he was a stagehand on productions of Oklahoma! South Pacific, The Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof. His first job after college was with the Florida Shakespeare Theater in Miami. Following work on several national tours he moved to New York City to begin a career in off-Broadway theater, fashion and Broadway that would see him rise to one of the top spots at the famed Gershwin Theater on Broadway. He worked at the Gershwin on the musical “Wicked” for 12 years until his retirement. Davy was a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE) Local One in New York City.

In summing up Davy's life and approach to living, those who knew him say, “He was the best at everything he cared about, and most things he didn't.” He was kind, loving, gentle and a multi-talented individual. His family and friends, of which there are many, will always love and miss him.
