Nathan "Nate" Smith

Nathan “Nate” Smith, 82, of Orange, Texas, passed away on May 15, 2018, in Beaumont.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Mr. Tommy Gore. Burial will follow at Orange Forest Lawn.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Tell City, Indiana, on August 12, 1935, he was the son of Murl Smith and Evelyn (Freeman) Smith. Nate was the owner of Williams Pharmacy in Orange and practiced pharmacy for 50 years. He was an active member of the Church of Christ. He served as a Deacon and Elder at 9th and Elm Church of Christ and later was a founding member and Elder of Fellowship Church of Christ. Nate embraced technology his entire life. He was one of the first pharmacists in the area to computerize his pharmacy in the 1970s and later launched his own computer business. Even in his retirement Nate still spent many hours working on his computer- he went from programming computers in the ‘70s to chatting with his sister and grandchildren over FaceTime.

He was preceded in death by his parents Murl Smith and Evelyn Smith Traweek; loving wife, Betty Smith; and son, Kreggor Smith.

He is survived by his children, Claire Smith and husband Cullin of Orange, and Brandt Smith and wife Gloria of Orange; daughter-in-law, Kim Smith of Orange; grandchildren, Krista Smith of College Station, Joshua Smith of Ft. Hood, Kaycie Landry and husband Jordan of College Station, Kody Smith of Orange, and Savanna Smith of College Station; and sister, Lesley Mize and husband Billy Joe of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jared Alcorn, Kody Smith, Josh Smith, Jordan Landry, Cullin Smith, and Brandt Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne McCamey, Walter Hart, J.W. Wilkerson, and Lee Coulter.
