James “Jim” Reed
James “Jim” Reed, 88, of Orange, Texas, passed away at 9:30 a.m., on September 26, 2017, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Pastor E. Dale Lee, of Cowboy Church of Orange County. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born in Rochester, New York, on April 24, 1929, he was the son of Raymond E. Reed and Elsie (Sadler) Reed. Jim was a graduate of the Riverside County Sherriff’s Academy in Riverside, California, as well as being the oldest to graduate from the FBI National Academy in Virginia. He was a licensed Peace Officer with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement- Officer Standards and Education. Jim graduated from Lamar University Institute of Technology with his Basic Police Certification. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1949 to 1950 as a Marine Engine Mechanic. He retired from Orange County District Attorney’s Office where he was a criminal investigator. Jim loved his family and will be greatly missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Elsie Reed; son, Robert E. Hindt; 1 granddaughter; 3 brothers; and 1 sister.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Doris Reed; sons, J. Michael Reed and wife Deborah G., of Bridge City, Alan Reed and wife Sandy, of Beaverton, AL, Paul Reed and wife Michele, of Orange, William K. Reed and wife Twilene, of Riverside, CA, and Jeff Reed and Darlene Chapman, of Orange; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Doug Reed and wife Thea, of Riverside, CA.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jay Reed, Jim Reed, Joshua Reed, Austin Reed, Alex Reed, Keith Ashworth, Ashtin Reed, and Ellis A. Goodwin. Honorary pallbearers are his sons.
