Frances Elizabeth Scott Greene, 98, of Beaumont, passed away on March 19, 2017, in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont. Officiating will be Reverend Larry Walker of First Baptist Church in Beaumont. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm Wednesday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Beaumont.
Born May 1, 1918 in Idabel, Oklahoma she was the daughter of Iva Calahan Scott and John Morgan Scott.
She was a graduate from Idabel High School and received R.N, Degree from Parkland Hospital School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas. During World War II Frances was an Army Nurse with the 174th station Hospital, serving 3 years overseas from 1942-1945 in Australia, New Guinea and Morotai. After transferring to the Air Corps she was sent to Rapid City Air Force base in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was there she met Dr. William Leonard Greene. They were married and after a residency in New York and Houston they moved to Beaumont, Texas, where they reared 6 children. Three years before Dr. Greene died in 1975; Frances went back to work as a Public Health Nurse with the State of Texas, retiring in 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Beaumont, Sweet Adeline’s International for 23 years, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Confederacy.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. W.L. Greene; sons, William Leonard Greene, Jr. and Daniel Greene; brother, Harold Scott and sister, Myrtle Redus.
She is survived by her children, Dennis Greene and wife, Patty of Fannett, TX, Patricia Greene of Beaumont, TX, Sheila Henderson of Ranger, TX and John Greene of Hemphil, TX; and her grandkids and great-grandkids.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 2350 IH 10 East, Beaumont, TX.
