Colonel Donald Ray Pendarvis

November 5, 1932 — April 24, 2015

Colonel Donald R. Pendarvis passed away peacefully at his home on April 24, 2015, surrounded by his wife and children, after a lengthy battle with colorectal cancer.

Born November 5, 1932 in Jonesboro, LA, to Mr. & Mrs. Allie V. Pendarvis, he went on to attend the University of Louisiana, Monroe graduating with two Bachelor Degrees in Business Administration and Accounting. From there he received his Masters of Business Administration from Pepperdine University.

He took his degrees and made a career of the U. S. Military enlisting first in the U. S. Marine Corps and then transferring his commission to the U. S. Army. It was through this experience that he and his wife, Jean, raised their family and traveled the world.

Pendarvis’ contributions to the military were quite extensive, and he was decorated with the Legion of Honor, Bronze Star, and Medals of Commendation from Joint Service and the Army. In 1976, Donald retired from the U. S. Army while in Hawaii, with a promotion to Brigadier General close at hand.

Retirement kept him very busy in the community by being an intricate part of the Aloha Shriners, Aloha Court Jesters and the Pearl Harbor Sertoma Club. Complications with his cancer brought him back to Texas.

Donald is survived by his widow, Jean; daughter Donna (Didi) Joao and husband Richard of Vidor, TX; son James (Tobey) Pendarvis and wife Angela of Houston, TX; grandson Matthew Colleps and fiancé Catherine Cazinha of San Antonio, TX; granddaughter Ashley Bennett and husband Shawn of Conroe, TX; granddaughter Melysa Pendarvis of Houston and step-granddaughter Rachel Joao of Ewa Beach, HI.
