Clyde Mitchell Chesson

March 17, 1923 — May 21, 2018

Clyde Mitchell Chesson, 95, of Orange, Texas, passed away on May 21, 2018, at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Reverend Terry Wright and Reverend Keith Pennington. Burial will follow the service at Walles Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in Orangefield, Texas, on March 17, 1923, he was the son of John Chesson and Allie (Barron) Chesson. Clyde was a lifelong resident of Orangefield and attended New Life Assembly of God Church. He went to Prairie View School and then to Southwestern Assemblies of God University. Clyde served his country in the Unites States Coast Guard-Gulf of Mexico, the United States Navy during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Hutchison, P.F. 45, and was a member of the Sky Warriors in the Confederate Air Force. He received Medals for American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, and Liberty. Clyde was a member of Golden Glove in Beaumont, the Masonic Lodge in Bridge City, was a “Worshipful Master”, and served on the Drainage District in Orange. He enjoyed motorcycles, horses, boxing, gardening, and ranching cattle and Texas longhorns. He also enjoyed airplanes and even had the only airfield in Orangefield. Clyde loved his family dearly and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Allie Chesson; daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Hayes; grandson, Clary Clifton Chesson; and siblings, Maude Chesson Harrington, Stanford Chesson, Hanford Chesson, John Victor Chesson, Claude Chesson, Sophie Chesson Peveto, Florence Chesson Gryder, Joseph Chesson, and Minnie Chesson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Lovera Mae “Sunny” Chesson; children, Clary Mitchell Chesson and wife Ruth, of Orange, Dave Leslie Chesson, Sr. and wife Charolette, of Orange, Holli Palmer of Houston, and Paul Day and wife Lana Day, of Houston; grandchildren, Craig Chesson and wife Lucy, Lori Chesson, Dave Leslie Chesson, Jr. and wife Karen, Krissy Chesson Reese and fiancé Chad Havens, Wes Palmer, Stephani Palmer, Cason Day, and Braeden Day; 20 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
