Final Disposition Options

Many options exist for the final disposition of cremated remains in the State of Texas. These options should be carefully considered before making a final decision.

The decision to scatter cremated remains should be made very carefully. For many people, it is important to have a special place of remembrance as a tribute to their loved one, their family heritage and culture. Many people have a real need for a place of focused reflection and remembering...a place for closure and perhaps a marker or memorial. These are important, permanent decisions.

Cremated Remains May Be:

* Kept in an urn or other container by a family member

* Buried on privately held property-with the permission of the property owner

* Scattered on publicly-held land or water

* Buried in cemeteries

* Placed in a special section of a mausoleum called a "niche"
